Setting the table!!!

Kids 5 and up can learn this basic chore -- giving you one less thing to worry about at dinnertime.
Learning to Set the Table

For every busy parent, dinnertime is stressful. You want to serve a healthy meal and spend time together -- but at the end of a long day, even zapping leftovers can be a challenge. Make it easier by teaching your child how to set the table. Kids 5 and up are ready to learn this basic chore, so get your child on board by talking up how important her job is. For younger kids, skip the sharp knives, use dishes that aren't breakable, and set all the supplies out on the counter. Older kids can grab dishes and silverware themselves. To help your child remember where everything goes, use our guide on the next page. And when you sit down to eat, make sure you praise her for a job well done. She'll feel so proud to finish her big-kid task -- and you'll enjoy a dinner that's a little bit less rushed.

Welcome to our Nov. Meeting...Come in your PJ'S!!!

Welcome to our PJ party!
We will be cooking up scrambled eggs and pancakes at this meeting!
We started with our 4H motto, pledge and prayer!
Time for pancakes! The possibilities are endless with pancakes!
You can add chocolate chips, blueberries, strawberries, pumpkin, bananas, apples, etc.!
Stir your pancake mixture until it is WET! Don't stir the lumps out! Your pancakes will be tough and not light and fluffy!
How do you know when the griddle is ready for your pancake mix?
Sprinkle water on it and the drops will DANCE!!!
How do you know when it's time to flip your pancake?
When it's nice and bubbly!

We discussed different ways to "spice" up our eggs!
You can add grated cheese, Parmesan cheese, salsa, ketchup!
Be creative when your cooking!
We introduced the food pyramid tonight! Eggs are apart of the MEAT group!
They are great protein for our body's!

Afew of our eggheads(just kidding)...I mean, cute girls!

We practiced making scrambled eggs.
Each child cracked their own egg and practiced whisking!

Cleaning up is important!
No one wants food from a dirty kitchen!
If you get things out...PUT THEM UP!!!!

The brave girls that dressed in their PJ's with me!
I get to pretend I'm Paula Dean at these meetings...SO FUN!!!

Things you need to remember for our Dec. meeting...
You need to bring a binder! A special binder for your cooking class and recipes!
You need to bring your report.
A small report is due! Get in the kitchen, cook something up and report on it!
The report needs to be about a page in length and pictures would be great!
Practice measuring, reading instructions and recipes, scrambling eggs and making pancakes!!!
Learning to cook is a process!
Practice makes perfect!

We talked about the proper way to crack eggs...

and use a mixer!!! (For the FIRST time!) Go Emily!

We started an assembly line! Orange icing, green icing and a pretzel for the stem!

Boys can cook too!!!! Their wives will love and appreciate them someday!
